학술논문의 장르 구조 분석: 초록과 서론의 수사적 전략 비교

본 연구는 영어 학술논문의 장르적 특성을 체계적으로 분석하기 위해 초록(Abstract)과 서론(Introduction)의 구조와 언어적 전략을 비교한다. 첫째, Pho(2008)의 5개 Move 모델을 기반으로 연구논문 초록의 수사적 구조를 분석하고, 학위논문 초록과의 차이점을 규명한다. 각 Move별 언어적 특성과 메타담화 전략을 Hyland(2005)의 interactive metadiscourse 개념을 통해 검토한다. 둘째, Swales(1990)의 CARS 모델을 적용하여 연구논문 서론의 Move와 Step 구성을 분석하고, 영어권과 한국어권 논문의 담화 전략 차이를 문화적 관점에서 비교한다. 연구 결과, 초록과 서론은 각각 독립적인 수사적 기능을 수행하면서도 학술 담화의 설득 전략을 체계적으로 구현하고 있으며, 언어권과 문화에 따라 Move의 실현 양상이 차별화됨을 확인했다. 본 연구는 학문 글쓰기 교육에서 구조 중심의 지도를 넘어 문화 간 담화 인식을 함양할 필요성을 제시한다.

This study systematically analyzes the genre structure of English academic research articles by examining the rhetorical strategies employed in abstracts and introductions. First, based on Pho's (2008) five-move model, we analyze the rhetorical structure of research article abstracts and identify differences with thesis abstracts. The linguistic features and metadiscourse strategies of each move are examined through Hyland's (2005) concept of interactive metadiscourse. Second, applying Swales' (1990) CARS model, we analyze the move and step composition of research article introductions and compare the discourse strategies between English and Korean academic texts from a cultural perspective. The findings reveal that abstracts and introductions perform distinct rhetorical functions while systematically implementing persuasive strategies in academic discourse, and that the realization of moves varies significantly across linguistic and cultural contexts. This study suggests the necessity of fostering cross-cultural discourse awareness in academic writing instruction beyond structure-focused pedagogy.
