본 연구는 외상 후 스트레스 장애(PTSD)의 개념, 증상, 그리고 치료 메커니즘을 체계적으로 분석한다. PTSD는 생명을 위협하는 극심한 사건 경험 이후 나타나는 정신건강 장애로서, 침투 증상, 회피 증상, 부정적 인지 및 정서 변화, 과도한 각성 상태를 특징으로 한다. 본 연구는 Edna Foa의 정서처리이론(Emotional Processing Theory)을 중심으로 PTSD의 병리적 메커니즘을 설명한다. 이 이론에 따르면 외상 기억은 병리적 공포 구조로 저장되며, 지속적인 회피 행동이 증상 유지의 핵심 요인이다. 정서처리이론은 장기노출치료의 이론적 기초가 되었으며, 안전한 환경에서 기억과 감정을 직면하고 새로운 정보를 학습하는 과정이 치유를 가능하게 함을 제시한다. 또한 본 연구는 외상 후 성장의 개념을 통해 PTSD 연구의 긍정적 관점을 제시하며, 인간의 회복탄력성과 의미 재구성 능력을 강조한다.

This study systematically analyzes the concept, symptoms, and treatment mechanisms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a mental health disorder that emerges following exposure to life-threatening traumatic events, characterized by intrusion symptoms, avoidance symptoms, negative cognitive and emotional changes, and hyperarousal. Centered on Edna Foa's Emotional Processing Theory (EPT), this research explains the pathological mechanisms of PTSD. According to this theory, traumatic memories are stored as pathological fear structures, and persistent avoidance behavior is a key factor in symptom maintenance. EPT serves as the theoretical foundation for Prolonged Exposure Therapy, demonstrating that confronting memories and emotions in a safe therapeutic environment while acquiring new information enables healing. Additionally, this study presents a positive perspective on PTSD research through the concept of posttraumatic growth, emphasizing human resilience and meaning reconstruction abilities.
