가야사회의 역사적 위상과 임나일본부설의 비판적 검토

본 논문은 한국 고대사에서 소외되어온 가야사의 의미를 재조명하고, 한일 간의 오랜 쟁점인 임나일본부설의 실체를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 가야는 약 500년 이상 고구려, 백제, 신라와 함께 독립적 왕권과 영역을 유지한 고대국가였음에도 불구하고, 삼국시대라는 개념 속에서 역사적 위상이 과소평가되어 왔다. 본 논문은 『삼국지』, 『일본서기』, 광개토대왕비문 등의 사료와 고고학적 증거를 종합적으로 검토하여, 임나일본부설의 근거로 제시된 자료들의 문제점을 지적한다. 특히 『일본서기』의 신뢰성 문제, 광개토대왕비문의 해석 논쟁, 칠지도의 오독 등을 비판적으로 분석함으로써, 임나일본부가 군사통치기관이 아닌 외교사절 성격의 기구였음을 규명한다. 가야의 철기문화와 선진문물은 고대 일본의 발전에 결정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 임나일본부는 이러한 문물교류를 중개하기 위한 외교적 기구였다는 결론에 도달한다.

This paper aims to reexamine the historical significance of Gaya, which has been marginalized in Korean ancient history, and to clarify the reality of the Mimana Japanese Headquarters theory, a long-standing point of contention between Korea and Japan. Despite maintaining independent royal authority and territory for over 500 years alongside Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla, Gaya's historical status has been underestimated within the concept of the Three Kingdoms period. This paper comprehensively examines historical records such as the Records of Wei, Nihon Shoki, and the Gwanggaeto Stele, along with archaeological evidence, to identify problems in the sources presented as evidence for the Mimana Japanese Headquarters theory. In particular, by critically analyzing the reliability issues of Nihon Shoki, interpretive disputes over the Gwanggaeto Stele, and misreadings of the Seven-Branched Sword, this paper clarifies that the Mimana Japanese Headquarters was not a military administrative institution but rather a diplomatic mission organization. The conclusion is reached that Gaya's iron-based culture and advanced materials had a decisive influence on the development of ancient Japan, and the Mimana Japanese Headquarters was a diplomatic institution that served to facilitate such cultural exchange.
