Comparing the events of chapter 19 with the account in chapter 20 reveals that the Levite concealed his cowardice and strategically appropriated sacred legal terminology to manipulate public opinion. The 'one-man-like' unity of 400,000 armed men was actually an emotional merger of anger without factual verification and self-reflection, ultimately resulting in the tragic annihilation of the tribe of Benjamin. Standing at the conclusion of the period of judges, this text eloquently testifies to how the righteousness humans establish for themselves in the absence of a true king is a fatal deception. From a redemptive-historical perspective, this study demonstrates that only the Christ of the cross, who gave himself, can shatter the distorted human righteousness and accomplish true justice and peace.
